"IMAGINE HOW" Fundraiser

On March 7, 2009 FUEL, the Grace United Methodist youth group, hosted the “Imagine How” fundraiser.  This was a dinner and silent auction at Grace United Methodist Church to benefit research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Dinner was catered by Carrabbas and acoustic entertainment was provided by Luke and Adam VanHine.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in early childhood.   A progressive muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence, Duchenne affects approximately one out of every 3,500 boys and 20,000 babies born each year worldwide. The disorder manifests primarily in boys because the affected gene is found on the X-chromosome. It touches all races and cultures.  Duchenne can occur during any pregnancy regardless of family history. To date, there is no cure or treatment to stop the progression of Duchenne, and young men with Duchenne typically live only into their twenties.

“Imagine How” is a movement inspired by Matthew Greiner, a three year old boy at our church who is affected by this disease.  His parents, Allison and Bobby, started “Imagine How” to support Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy which raises funds for the research of this disease.  To find out more about the cause that you will be supporting please visit www.parentprojectmd.org/goto/matthew.greiner.
