Grace Church Volunteer Opportunities

Acolyte

Boys and girls from third grade through middle school serve the important function of symbolically bringing the Light of Christ into the worship service and leading the way for the congregation to take the Light of Christ into the world. Acolytes also have special roles during the communion service and baptism.

Nursery Worker

Assist paid nursery workers with care and nurture of the children of Grace during regular church services and special activities.

Hall Helpers

These persons are stationed in the hallway of the second floor of the educational building during the Sunday School time. Hall Helpers are available to assist teachers in many ways, such as getting supplies, taking a child to the restroom, etc. Hall Helpers are also a part of Grace's commitment to establishing a safe environment for ALL children at all times.

Power Point Operators (Project Worship Service)

These volunteers operate the computer program that projects our worship system in the 9:00 a.m.

Junior Church Assistants

These volunteers conduct special activities for children during both worship services. A specific curriculum is provided, and typically the children do fun activities and make a craft project. Junior Church is for children ages 3 - 6 years.

Taping and Sound System

This very important job involves operating the sound console during the 11:00 a.m. worship service and recording the service. Copies of the archive tape are made to be delivered to shut-ins and other members who request them.

Greeters

Greeters help visitors and new members locate classes and the nursery prior to both worship services. Greeters also are responsible for handing out bulletins and providing a friendly face and warm Grace welcome.

Ushers

Greeting folks and assisting with seating, handing out bulletins, helping the acolyte, collecting the offering.

Communion Stewards

Volunteers assist the ministers with the distribution of the elements of Holy Communion. Communion service at Grace is scheduled for the first Sunday of each month.

Altar Guild

This team is responsible for helping prepare and present the seasonal vestments that adorn the pulpit and altar. Also prepare for communion services and decorate and otherwise prepare for special church seasons.

Office Assistants

These volunteers assist our church secretary with routine assignments such as mass mailing, updating membership files, computer input, answering telephone and other scheduled office tasks. Volunteers are also needed to cover for vacation or personal time off.

Time with Children

Volunteers prepare and conduct the special children's portion of the worship service. We sometimes refer to this as the "children's sermon.

IT Pros

These folks are knowledgeable in computer hardware or software and periodically assist with computer upgrades, clean-up, internet issues, etc.

Lawn Service

These folks, in teams of three or four, take an hour or so on weekends to mow, weed, and clean up our church grounds. This is a huge group of people that help save thousands of dollars for Grace each year by taking care of this important task.

Nick's Transportation

These volunteers take turns transporting Nick to and from church services and special church activities.

Openers

These are the early birds that come before the rest of us and open the church and make sure we're ready for worship service on Sundays.

Closers

The closers are those that volunteer to stay a few minutes after everyone else has left on Sunday to ensure that doors are locked, windows are closed and lights are off.

FUEL Cooks

These volunteers, usually parents of our youth, take turns providing dinner for our weekly middle and high school youth program.

Graceful Grounds Baristas

The folks serve coffee and juice during our 9:00 Contemporary Worship Service.

Special Assignments

By far and away the biggest serving need within Grace. Helping prepare, serve or clean up for a fellowship supper; assist with scheduling for the church pictorial directory and a thousand other needs occurring not on a regular basis…but periodically.
