Wonderful Wednesdays at Grace
Wonderful Wednesday Dinner and Small Groups
Fall is here and we've got a wonderful schedule planned for each Wednesday evening September 24th through October the 22nd. Our time together will begin with a fellowship meal at 5:30 p.m. in Graceful Grounds. Then, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. we'll have a variety of small group offerings designed to help us connect our life and faith. There is something for everyone, so clear your calendars and join us for each of the five sessions. The cost of dinner is $4.00 per adult, $2 for children ages 4-10, with a family maximum of $12.00. Free childcare is provided for children age 2 and under.
Small Group offerings include:
The Spirituality of Aging led by Dr. Harry Long. This study is designed to help senior adults explore issues related to the aging process. Harry will lead the group in discussions on topics such as: retirement, dealing with health concerns, grieving the death of a loved one, the transition to retirement home/nursing home living, and facing your own mortality.
The Parables of Jesus led by Dr. Scott Romine. This small group open to all ages will use Maxie Dunnam’s book, Twelve Parables of Jesus, to explore five stories Jesus told: The Story of the Rich Fool, The Story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, The Story of the Wheat and Tares, The Story of the Unforgiving Servant, and The Story of the Prodigal son.
Godly Play led by Laura Jo Gann, our Children’s Director, is for children ages 3 through 10. In their time together our children will use the art of using religious language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - to help them become more fully aware of God’s presence in their lives.
Being the Parent You Want to Be led by Dr. Patty Von Steen. This small group is designed for parents of children ages birth -12. This group will help parents learn some encouraging words kids need to hear and explore the top traits parents need to strengthen in their quest to becoming the parents God wants them to be. Topics will include: giving praise, setting limits, expressing love, and offering forgiveness. There will be an emphasis on personal reflection and group discussion.
Teens, Asking, Learning, Knowing led by teens for teens. This will be a relaxed environment for teens to discuss important teen issues. Issues covered will be Goals, Self Esteem, Values, Peer Pressure, Decision Making, and Risky Behaviors; Alcohol, Drugs, and Risky Behaviors; Healthy Relationships and Abstinence; STI/HIV Prevention and Pregnancy Prevention (promotion of abstinence)
How to be an “Askable Parent” led by Mary Conner. This is a parallel study for the parents of teens. Parents will explore and discuss the same issues their teens will be covering. Mary’s focus will be on teaching parents to be approachable and open when discussing issues with teens.
To register for a class or classes, send an e-mail to Judi Mitchell letting us know which class or classes you'd like to attend, how many people you'll be bringing for dinner, and if you'd like a standing reservation for dinner each week.
